Alan Crane

American 1901 - 1969

Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1901, Alan Crane studied at Pratt Institute. His work is represented in the Library of Congress, Smithsonian, Carnegie Institute, Metropolitan Museum, New York Public Library, Brooklyn Museum, Boston Public Library and Trinity University. Author and illustrator of three children's book, he was also a member of the Salmagundi Club, Philadelphia Watercolor Club, Prairie Print Makers, Audubon Artists, Rockport Art Association, and North Shore Art Association. He received prizes awarded by the Library of Congress, Salmagundi Club and the Rockpot Art Association. All of Crane's lithographs were printed by George C. Miller, New York City. A master of technique and depth of field, Alan Crane's images convey a subtle and refined tonal consonance as they reveal traditional life on Cape Ann, MA and in his wife's native Mexico.
